A pop-up campus for creators in Porto, Portugal - Jul 8 to Aug 4

Does your work take subjective experience seriously?

Does it feel like a piece of a larger puzzle?

What if you could work on it AND be around others’ pieces?

We’re opening a sunny 4-week co-working space for ~15 of our friends over a wide but synergetic range of topics.

A space of researchers, engineers and artists - working topics ranging from qualia research to body work, moral philosophy to applied AI, child-rearing to human coordination and more.

We hope that just by sharing a space there will be many chances to transmit perspectives, cross-pollinate, share feedback and collaborate if it feels right. Not to mention just vibe with awesome people.

Logistics:

  • Dates: July 8th to August 4th
  • Accommodation: You’re responsible for booking your own, though we'll help coordinate an Airbnb for the first ~6 people to commit to the whole time.
  • Capacity: 15 spots at any given time, with people coming and going.
  • Duration: Any number of weeks, but encouraged to stay for at least a month to cultivate collaboration.
  • Cost: EARLY BIRD until June 10: 100€ per week
    • Normal price: 600€ for the whole time, otherwise 150€ per week
  • Schedule:
    • Co-work space will close on weekends to incentivize work-life balance.
    • Regular dedicated blocks of time for presentations and collaboration.
    • Socials every Friday,  for co-working members and friends!
  • Workspace: Flexible seating, movement friendly,  separate room for calls.
  • Extra: There’s a huge São João - a festivity after the city’s patron saint - block party on our street on the 23rd of June, that’s really worth flying in early for! People all over the city grill sardines, release paper lanterns, drink and dance all night long, and there’s a big fireworks show at midnight.
  • Families: If you’re thinking of bringing your kids along for the trip, we can provide reduced-cost babysitting for children under 5, recommend family-friendly spots and events around town as well as help you source any kid-related gear you might need during your stay.

Even if you don’t attend the co-work space, we’d still like to invite you to use this time as a Schelling point to enjoy the community and socialize.

We suggest looking for accommodation within the areas traced in black or otherwise next to a metro station. The area traced in white will be the priciest (downtown and riverside).

The Space

Simple kitchen on the ground floor - overlooking the garden - where there will be coffee, tea and snacks for coworking members :)
Lots of outdoor space for hanging out and catching some rays.

Nearby church. There’s also the beautiful Oporto synagogue on the same street, which has guided tours! Both are worth a visit.
Nearby concert hall: Casa da Música. Also has a cool café with shaded outdoor seating that usually hosts weekly free-entry music concerts during the summer months.
Nearby market and food court: Mercado do Bom Sucesso. Has a bunch of food options for all tastes, plus a grocery store and other shops all around its exterior. Right next to it there are also two shopping malls: Shopping Cidade do Porto and Península.
Nearby garden: Rotunda da Boavista. Nice for walking around and sunbathing on the grass!

About the co-work house: One of the downstairs rooms will stay in use as an architecture studio by the owners (B’s uncle and aunt) who are graciously letting us rent the whole rest of the space.
